ft470.13
With all of the mods for out-of-band operation circulating for
the FT-470, I thought I would take some measurements and find
out just how well the receiver performs on non-amateur
frequencies.
Method of test: An FM signal, modulated at a frequency of 1 KHz
and a deviation of 3 KHz, was applied to the FT-470, and the
signal level was adjusted to give a reading of "5" on the
s-meter. A fully-charged FNB-17 battery pack was used. An
accurate sensitivity measurement was not desired, only an
indication of the relative sensitivity in and out of the band.
The following table gives the results:
2m 70cm
----------------- ------------------
146 MHz 0.21 uV 440 MHz 0.29 uV
148 0.22 450 0.30
150 0.25 455 1.00
155 0.32 460 6.00
160 2.40 465 13.0
165 11.0 470 22.0
170 30.0 475 24.0
175 73.0 480 37.0
180 160. 490 95.0
500 140.
Comments: Receiver sensitivity is superb within amateur bands,
"fair" up to about 160/460 MHz, and "useable" up to about
170/475 MHz. Bear in mind that there is a trade-off between
receiver bandwidth and immunity to undesired signals. Also,
most services monitored outside amateur bands have fairly strong
signals.
